Opened to the public in 1988, the Watefront Leisure Centre in Woolwich will be closing down late 2025 and the leisure centre relocated to Beresford Square. While the exact future of the site is unknown, the centre itself will likely be demolished.
In September 2025, I was able to photograph the centre as it stands, walking around the space after it had closed for the weekend. My aim was to memorialise a well-known location in the neighbourhood, notably for its snake slide and attractions, and one of the many London and its boroughs are relinquishing to redevelopment. Redevelopment in and around Woolwich began in 2001 and, according to the Council, will continue into 2030.
With thanks to Greenwich Council and the Better group and staff for facilitating access to the space.
